Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work with an RN to implement patient care under general supervision and established policies
  • Communicate learning needs to the nurse preceptor and seek varied learning experiences
  • Set priorities, meet deadlines, and promote patient outcomes under RN direction
  • Perform nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate care provided by professionals and unlicensed staff, including delegation and coaching
  • Provide selected physical care within the scope of practice
  • Document and communicate patient responses, resource consumption, and anticipated needs
  • Document nursing histories and patients’ physical and emotional needs
  • Develop and manage care plans for assigned patients
  • Measure vital signs and identify deviations from normal
  • Observe patients, document conditions and reactions, implement interventions, and notify supervisors or physicians
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved techniques and policies
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Respond to life-saving situations according to nursing standards and protocols
  • Manage discharge planning and preparation
  • Rotate among clinical services, including obstetrics, surgery, orthopedics, outpatient, admitting, and pediatrics
  • Prepare rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures as assigned
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Pursue professional development and contribute to a positive team climate
  • Potentially serve as a clinical resource and role model to Unit Clerks, USAs, PCAs, and LPNs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing
  • Within one year of graduation, with an expected graduation date in Spring 2027 or Winter 2027
  • BLS Certification
  • Satisfactory completion of a pharmacology course or satisfactory performance on a pharmacology medication test
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and caringly, verbally and in writing
  • Minimum of four shifts per month required
  • Ability to work 12-hour variable shifts, 7a to 7p or 7p to 7a
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift light-weight objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients
  • Ability to complete Hospital, Core, and Department-specific orientation requirements
