About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical patient care to an assigned patient population under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Gather patient data and obtain vital information, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, intake/output, and calorie counts
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, feeding, ambulation, transport, repositioning, surgery and procedure preparation, and discharge
  • Answer call lights, phones, and intercom systems and provide information, directions, and assistance
  • Communicate patient status, interventions, collected data, and pertinent input to the RN
  • Document findings accurately and concisely in the EMR
  • Participate in patient admissions and provide delegated technical care according to unit standards, protocols, procedures, and nursing guidelines
  • Maintain patient and employee safety, controlled access, hygiene, a clean environment, and patient comfort
  • Stock patient rooms and supplies, move equipment, manage incoming tubes, and deliver medications or other items to the RN or medication room
  • Support department performance improvement, unit goals, staff meetings, and Bronson’s Standards of Excellence
  • Complete annual swing-bed training and understand related documentation and care requirements
  • Employees approved to work in a Swing Bed Facility may cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview Hospital and/or Bronson South Haven Hospital based on patient acuity and staffing needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Previous experience and CNA license preferred
  • Obtain BLS Certification by the end of the orientation period and maintain BLS certification
  • For BCOM Only: Successful completion of Certified Nurse Aide Exam within 4 months of hire
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge preferred
  • Skill and proficiency in oral and written grammar, communication, and basic mathematics
  • Ability to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with heavier tasks
  • Ability to operate and attend to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time
  • Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
