About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform essential pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory functions
- Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture
- Ensure correct specimen types are collected based on labeling and reference materials
- Respond to STAT orders and prioritize tasks according to policy
- Maintain communication with team members and charge personnel
- Verify test-order accuracy and participate in quality assurance checks
- Perform EKGs and specialized tests, including sweat chloride and bleeding time
- Assist with onboarding new staff in the LIS
- Ensure all patient testing is accounted for prior to collection
- Function as an accession technician when qualified
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- National Phlebotomy Certification preferred
- Proficiency in Mysis Laboratory Information System
- Knowledge of basic biology, chemistry, and mathematics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service-oriented with problem-solving abilities
- Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic environment
- Frequent standing, walking, and light lifting up to 20 lbs
- Ability to operate a personal computer for up to 40% of the time
- Ability to manage tasks involving potential mental/visual fatigue due to frequent deadlines
