About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide inpatient medical coverage at Bronson facilities in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek
  • Cover both hospitals on a rotating schedule of days, weekends, and nights
  • Interview, examine, and treat clinical patients
  • Educate patients and families on wellness, prevention, and early detection
  • Determine required referrals and urgency of follow-up or consultation appointments
  • Exercise final medical judgment on healthcare issues
  • Prescribe medical treatments and clinical drugs
  • Order studies, tests, and ancillary services
  • Document services in patient medical records
  • Review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention
  • Consult with the Medical Director and other staff regarding patient care, assessment, and education
  • Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other hospital or clinic patient-care programs
  • Oversee assigned mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff
  • Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations
  • Provide outstanding customer service consistent with Bronson’s mission, values, and standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Internal Medicine Board Certified/Board Eligible physician
  • Prior completion of a residency in Internal Medicine
  • Medical degree
  • 2 years of direct or intern experience required
  • Current and unrestricted Michigan State Medical License as MD/DO
  • Current DEA Licensure
  • Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proper telephone etiquette
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and quality patient-centered care
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including required weekends and rotating days, weekends, and nights
  • Ability to perform duties involving sustained mental/visual concentration, computer use 40–70% of the time, standing, walking, lifting objects up to 20 pounds, and assisting with moving patients
