About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses, minor injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions
  • Provide care in a same-day walk-in clinic for established and non-established patients
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
  • Interpret laboratory, radiologic, EKG, and imaging tests
  • Interpret and correlate subjective and objective patient data and formulate diagnoses
  • Review patient findings under physician direction and develop treatment plans within scope of practice
  • Perform activities in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and facilitate progress toward outcomes, including discharge or transfer
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team
  • Identify common patient complications and use appropriate preventative measures
  • Assist with development and integration of quality measures and evidence into clinical practice
  • Perform comprehensive assessments to determine need for higher-intensity services or hospital transfer
  • Apply regulatory and third-party payer criteria for utilization review and management
  • Facilitate timely discharges and transfers to the appropriate level of care
  • Complete documentation supporting billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes
  • Be available for nursing questions and evaluate patient status changes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 2 years of ED, Primary Care, or Urgent Care experience
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in the state of Michigan
  • Licensure as Physician Assistant and state DEA license to prescribe medications
  • Current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s)
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges
  • Ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other relevant software
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication, utilizing SBAR technique
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers
  • Must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served when providing direct patient care
