About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses, minor injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions
  • Provide care in a same-day walk-in clinic for established and non-established patients
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
  • Interpret laboratory, radiologic, EKG, and imaging tests
  • Interpret and correlate subjective and objective patient data and formulate diagnoses
  • Develop treatment plans under physician direction within scope of practice
  • Perform activities in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams toward patient outcomes, discharge, or transfer
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team
  • Identify patient complications and use preventative measures
  • Assist with quality-measure and evidence integration into clinical practice
  • Perform utilization review and determine whether transfer to a hospital or higher-intensity service is required
  • Facilitate timely discharges and transfers
  • Complete documentation supporting billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes
  • Respond to nursing questions and evaluate patient status changes
  • Communicate with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, finance, management, patients, payers, and community agencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 2 years of ED, Primary Care, Urgent Care, or ER experience
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in the state of Michigan
  • Licensure as Physician Assistant and state DEA license to prescribe medications
  • Current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s)
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges
  • Ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other relevant software
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication, utilizing SBAR technique
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and quality patient-centered care
