About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform radiographic examinations of various anatomical parts and systems to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating injuries or medical disorders
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the patient population served when providing direct patient care
  • Work rotationally in several radiology department areas, performing routine radiology examinations and advanced diagnostic procedures such as fluoroscopy, joint injections, and lumbar/myelogram exams
  • Receive or escort patients into examination areas and review pertinent patient information
  • Instruct patients about examinations and assist providers with procedures
  • Position patients and adjust supportive, immobilization, and radiation-protective devices
  • Operate diagnostic radiographic equipment in accordance with physician orders and consult radiologists about orders or unusual situations
  • Perform radiology work in other areas as needed to accommodate patient and provider needs
  • Report equipment malfunctions and required adjustments or repairs
  • Assist providers with administration of prescribed radiolucent or radiopaque media
  • Perform first aid and assist with adverse reactions to contrast media and other emergencies
  • Observe and practice sterile technique
  • Maintain cleanliness of procedure rooms and equipment
  • Maintain accurate patient and file documentation
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels
  • Demonstrate or oversee on-the-job training for student technologists and other assigned non-professional assistants

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Certificate of Completion of a hospital-based program or Associate’s degree from an accredited school of Radiology Technology required
  • Registered ARRT required or registry eligible; registry-eligible technologists must obtain registry within 6 months of hire
  • Successfully complete BLS training course within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to operate basic computer programs associated with departmental record keeping
  • Excellent human relations skills for dealing with patients, providers, and others in difficult or sensitive situations
  • Customer service orientation
  • Leadership and organizational skills, including ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to work with sustained alertness and concentration
  • Ability to stand and walk considerably, lift light objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with heavier tasks such as lifting and moving patients of 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to work rotationally across radiology areas and perform routine and advanced diagnostic procedures
