Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work with an RN to implement patient care under general supervision and organizational policies
  • Communicate learning needs to the nurse preceptor and seek varied learning experiences
  • Set priorities, meet deadlines, and promote patient outcomes under RN direction
  • Use the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate care provided by professionals and unlicensed staff, including delegation and coaching in selected situations
  • Provide selected physical care within the scope of practice
  • Document and communicate patient responses, resource consumption, and anticipated needs
  • Document nursing histories and patients’ physical and emotional needs
  • Develop and manage care plans for assigned patients
  • Take vital signs and assess patient conditions
  • Observe patients, document conditions and reactions, administer interventions, and notify supervisors or physicians as needed
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved techniques and policies
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during treatments and examinations
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety
  • Initiate patient education plans
  • Respond to life-saving situations
  • Manage discharge planning and preparation
  • Rotate among clinical services and prepare rooms, instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and professional development
  • Support a positive work climate and overall team effort
  • May act as a clinical resource and role model to Unit Clerks, USAs, PCAs, and LPNs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing
  • Must be within one year of graduation, with an expected graduation date in Spring 2027 or Winter 2027
  • Must complete Hospital, Core, and Department-specific orientation requirements
  • BLS Certification
  • Satisfactory completion of a pharmacology course or satisfactory performance on a pharmacology medication test
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and caringly, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work variable 12-hour shifts, including a minimum of four shifts per month
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift light-weight objects up to 20 pounds, and assist with lifting and moving patients
