About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage patient care delivery throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge
- Apply the nursing process: assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation
- Coordinate care provided by other professionals
- Delegate tasks within the scope of professional nursing practice and assistants’ abilities
- Provide appropriate physical care based on patient acuity and complexity
- Document and communicate patient responses, resource consumption, and anticipated needs
- Collect and analyze comprehensive patient data and identify patient problems
- Develop individualized care plans and expected outcomes with patient/family input
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments using approved nursing techniques
- Provide patient education and coordinate implementation of education plans
- Organize, delegate, and evaluate patient care interventions
- Coordinate discharge planning
- Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, peer review, and professional development
- Collaborate with patients, families, and multiple healthcare disciplines
- Protect patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights; serve as patient advocate
- Use research and evidence-based practice to improve patient care and nursing practice
- Provide leadership in the professional practice setting and attend at least 50% of unit staff meetings
- For scrub RN duties: prepare case carts, anticipate physician and surgical-team needs, maintain equipment and instruments, and perform scrub duties across multiple services
- Complete annual swing-bed training and understand associated documentation and care requirements
- For HDU: fulfill additional on-call requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain within 8 years of hire
- Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan
- BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
- Critical care or ALS required for some RNs, unit specific
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC required within 6 months for specified Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum RNs
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment
- Ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically
- Ability to sustain attention and concentration for computer/CRT work
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier tasks
- Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
- Must complete the Workday CBL “Swing beds” for Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital RNs
