About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise other staff as part of the design team
  • Complete traffic engineering design project assignments
  • Work independently and as part of a team on smaller projects or portions of larger projects
  • Perform traffic engineering design and analysis for transportation improvement projects
  • Use advanced engineering software, such as MicroStation
  • Prepare task assignment proposals, including scope and man-hour estimates
  • Contribute to proposals for business development and contract pursuits
  • Supervise 2–3 junior design engineers/technicians
  • Design traffic maintenance of traffic (MOT), signing, pavement marking, and signal projects
  • Prepare cost estimates associated with design
  • Conduct traffic engineering studies and analysis, speed studies, and signal timing evaluation and optimization
  • Review and verify data collection for manual/machine traffic counts and inventory programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BSCE in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in traffic engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineering in Maryland (or ability to obtain reciprocity)
  • Registered Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Knowledge of SHA, Maryland County DPW, and other State DOT Guidelines/procedures
  • Knowledge and ability to work using MicroStation, AutoCAD and other engineering design software programs
  • Knowledge and ability to use Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and other traffic analysis software programs
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the US
  • Willingness to undergo a background check
  • Willingness to relocate to Columbia, Maryland within six months of hire if not local
