About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage ongoing daily operations, sales and high-volume stock management within the specialist department
  • Lead and develop a team of 20+ team members
  • Perform duty manager responsibilities, including opening and closing the store across weekdays and weekends
  • Work closely with Department Managers across Service, Inside the Home, Builders, and Lifestyles & Garden
  • Report directly to the Operations Manager and Complex Manager
  • Drive Service and Operations within the department
  • Train and develop team members and build team capability
  • Monitor and measure customer service levels
  • Liaise with Merchandising, Store Leadership, and Health and Safety teams
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers
  • Maintain an engaged and safe work environment
  • Manage team engagement, performance, recognition, and safety culture compliance
  • Create rosters and strategically plan team coverage
  • Drive department sales through merchandising and monitoring key metrics
  • Act on customer feedback to improve the end-to-end customer experience
  • Own department stock accuracy, adjustments, replenishment discipline, and loss prevention processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be age 15 or over to apply
  • Previous experience leading teams in the retail industry or a large, high volume customer focused organisation
  • Experience leading teams with a focus on Safety and Wellbeing and Specialist products preferred
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Ability to lead and inspire a large team of 20+
  • Ability to champion a safe and secure environment and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Experience opening and closing the store and supporting smooth trade across weekdays and weekends
  • Ability to build team capability through clear expectations, performance conversations and recognition
  • Ability to deliver effective rostering and strategic planning
  • Knowledge of merchandising, sales performance, stock accuracy, availability and loss prevention
  • Understanding of KPIs and exceeding customer expectations
  • Availability for a minimum of 1 in 3 weekend roster and some public holiday work
  • Successful background checks may be required, including police, employment, medical and qualification checks
