About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct on-site QA/QC inspections of building systems, structural integrity, and safety compliance
  • Inspect electrical, mechanical, fire and life safety, and structural components in commercial, residential, and industrial buildings
  • Conduct military housing inspections using established protocols and guidelines
  • Verify homes on military bases comply with safety regulations and identify and report hazards
  • Collect live property-condition data using tablets and web-based programs
  • Provide photographic documentation of housing-unit conditions and identified issues
  • Review construction plans, specifications, and maintenance records for compliance
  • Identify deficiencies, hazards, and non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Inspect mechanical equipment across single-family homes, multiplexes, townhouses, row houses, apartments, and barracks
  • Conduct interviews with on-site representatives and knowledgeable property contacts
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports with photographs and supporting documentation
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and standards including ASTM, NFPA, NEC, ICC, and ASME
  • Communicate inspection results and compliance issues to property owners, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other inspectors to maintain consistency and quality control
  • Maintain project communication with senior management regarding issues and potential problems
  • Stay current on building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Meet productivity and report-quality objectives
  • Protect confidential company information and provide timely, proactive customer service
  • Follow company policies, SOPs, work instructions, and safety procedures
  • Work overtime when authorized
  • Travel by plane, motor vehicle, and train to client sites across the U.S.; onsite deployments may last up to three continuous weeks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required; some college preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • InterNACHI certification required for Military Inspectors; must pass the Interim Certification and obtain the Interim Certified Property Inspector designation within the first week of employment
  • Must attain the Full Certified Property Inspector designation through InterNACHI no later than 12 months after joining the program
  • Complete 90 hours of CEUs in the first 12 months
  • Valid driver's license required with no significant motor vehicle report points or violations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from clients, peers, and technical field staff
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret varied instructions and abstract and concrete variables
  • Computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software
  • Time management, active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safely
  • Must have a cell phone and supply own internet service
  • Must meet the physical demands of the job, including walking, standing, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs and ladders, operating tablets and computers, occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds, and safely operating a motor vehicle with passengers
  • Travel 75–90% of the time to client/project sites across the U.S.; frequent travel and overnight stays required
  • For Mechanical Inspectors: welding/pressure vessel inspection knowledge preferred; NDT knowledge or certification is a plus
  • For FLS Inspectors: bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Safety Management, or a related field preferred; in-depth knowledge of fire codes, standards, and regulations; proficiency with inspection software and reporting tools
