About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess building regulation applications, plans, and technical submissions for compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation
  • Review architectural, structural, fire safety, accessibility, and energy-related information
  • Identify compliance issues and provide clear, practical, and proportionate technical advice
  • Manage statutory consultations with Fire and Rescue Authorities where required
  • Review amended submissions and support applicants through the approval process
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure assessments are completed within statutory timescales
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues across the wider building control team
  • Support knowledge-sharing, technical training, and mentoring activities where appropriate

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current Class 2A -D Building Inspector (RBI) registration with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR)
  • Strong experience within Building Control and plan assessment in England
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Regulations, Approved Documents, and associated legislation
  • Experience assessing technical drawings and building regulation applications
  • Understanding of fire safety requirements and statutory consultation processes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical requirements clearly
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing a varied caseload
  • Experience across domestic, commercial, and higher-risk buildings desirable
  • Exposure to complex or technically challenging projects desirable
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other building control professionals desirable
  • Professional qualifications within building surveying, construction, engineering, or a related discipline desirable
