About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the day-to-day operations of BFG's Tax Department
- Manage, supervise, coach, and develop tax team members
- Establish expectations for assignments, deadlines, quality, communication, documentation, and accountability
- Conduct department and individual follow-up meetings
- Identify performance, workload, training, and resource issues before they affect client delivery
- Manage the overall tax project pipeline and maintain visibility into project status
- Ensure projects progress through workflow stages from intake and preparation through review, e-filing, delivery, and follow-up
- Monitor deadlines, aging, bottlenecks, dependencies, and overdue tasks
- Assign projects based on experience, competency, workload, deadlines, and complexity
- Monitor capacity and redistribute work as needed
- Provide operational and technical oversight for U.S. business tax engagements
- Oversee preparation and delivery of U.S. individual income tax returns
- Manage tax-planning and tax-resolution workflows
- Coordinate with CPA Advisors, EAs, senior tax professionals, QA, Client Tax Leads, and other specialists
- Ensure quality-control procedures, review comments, and rework items are handled promptly
- Supervise Client Tax Leads and manage tax delivery systems and client-portfolio distribution
- Maintain visibility over federal, state, and internal deadlines
- Develop SOPs, checklists, workflow standards, and documentation requirements
- Improve workflows using automation, AI, tax technology, dashboards, and project-management systems
- Develop a scalable, systematic, measurable tax operation
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years of relevant U.S. tax experience
- Significant practical experience with U.S. individual and business taxation
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing Forms 1040, 1120S, 1065, and preferably 1120
- Previous experience supervising or managing tax professionals
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience assigning work and monitoring staff capacity
- Experience reviewing employee performance and providing coaching
- Experience working within a tax practice, accounting firm, CPA firm, EA practice, or similar professional-services environment
- Strong familiarity with tax workflow and project-management processes
- Strong practical understanding of U.S. individual and business taxation
- Ability to manage simultaneous tax projects, priorities, deadlines, dependencies, and team assignments
- Ability to lead, coach, delegate, hold team members accountable, resolve performance issues, and develop employees
- Ability to distinguish routine matters from issues requiring senior technical review
- Comfortable learning and using tax software, project-management platforms, dashboards, AI-enabled tools, and other technology
- Professional credentials are preferred but not mandatory
- Preferred: Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA or CPA-track professional, CA/CA Inter with substantial U.S. tax experience, experience with Drake Tax or similar software, offshore/distributed team management, tax planning or tax resolution, and project/workflow-management systems
