About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and analyze enhancements in clearly defined or ambiguous spaces
Deliver clean, efficient code based on sprint commitments and coding standards
Lead design, implementation, and delivery of complex software initiatives spanning multiple engineers or related teams
Own architecture decisions for a team area, service boundary, or shared capability
Improve long-term system health
Break large initiatives into deliverable increments that can be built in parallel and reassembled into a cohesive launch
Drive design reviews and provide instructive code reviews
Raise engineering standards for security, quality, resilience, and maintainability
Identify bottlenecks, architecture deficiencies, and endemic problems and drive responses across teams
Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring
Help managers assess technical growth and readiness
Define team patterns for responsible AI-assisted development, including coding, testing, documentation, and incident response controls
Influence technical decisions beyond the immediate team through collaboration, design leadership, and engineering best practices
Perform other duties as assigned
Comply with all policies and standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, Software Engineering, or related degree or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a record of leading complex or ambiguous technical work
Experience owning architecture or a major technical area for a team, product, or platform capability
Strong design, coding, debugging, testing, and production operations skills in modern software systems
Ability to make sound trade-offs across customer impact, delivery speed, maintainability, security, and operational risk
Ability to influence across teams and levels without relying on direct authority
Extensive knowledge of JAVA, SQL, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, Object-Oriented Programming and Relational Databases (Oracle and PostgreSQL)
Preferred: experience with distributed systems, platform services, data-intensive systems, integrations, or shared technical capabilities
Preferred: experience setting standards for AI-assisted development workflows, tooling evaluation, or engineering productivity mechanisms
Preferred: experience in benefits administration, HR technology, regulated SaaS, or other complex B2B platforms
Helpful experience with AWS, AWS Lambda, user interface development, mobile development with HTML5 or Swift, Bootstrap, JQuery, React Native, billing and payroll, data import/export, SSO, or large-scale EDI
Internal applicants must be in good standing in their current roles and cannot be on a performance improvement plan
Applicants must have been in their current roles a minimum of one year before moving into a new opportunity; Member Services & Client Services employees must have been in their roles a minimum of two full Annual Enrollments
