About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Calculate major construction cost estimates
- Plan, develop, negotiate, and perform contract execution for projects
- Lead the estimating process and tender closings
- Review plans and specifications and identify discrepancies
- Complete Class D, C, B, and A budgets in divisional or elemental format
- Present estimates and interact with clients and consultants independently
- Organize plans and specifications for subtrade distribution and posting on BuildingConnected
- Prepare front-end specifications with the project manager
- Coordinate site visits and attendance
- Complete pre-bid forms and summary sheets
- Establish trade budgets and prepare post-bid closing summaries
- Complete bonding and insurance requests and submissions
- Solicit bidders, distribute subtrade requests, and follow up to ensure positive closing results
- Identify cost savings during budgeting and tendering
- Manage tender RFIs from internal teams and subcontractors and submit them for consultant clarification
- Take off general subtrade scopes and prepare detailed costing of self-perform scopes
- Participate in project team meetings and workshops
- Maintain strong trade relationships supporting budgeting and tender results
- Collaborate with the company team, clients, and consultants to fulfill preconstruction commitments
- Consider costs in relation to project schedules and seasonality
- Prepare closing sheets, breakdowns, and separate pricing
- Identify risks and opportunities
- Complete bid leveling for each scope before client bid recommendations
- Lead subtrade review meetings and scope clarification with project manager and superintendent involvement
- Adopt and maintain the RFP fee strategy
- Complete post-project reviews and cost analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineering degree, Construction Management degree, Technical College diploma, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
- Minimum of 10 years in the ICI construction industry or equivalent
- Thorough knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to diagnose, analyze, and develop solutions to complex issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Attention to detail
- Ability to train junior staff
- Self-starter with excellent attitude and initiative
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project
- Proven ability to successfully manage a tender closing
- Gold Seal Certified is an asset
- LEED Accredited is an asset
- Procore and BIM software knowledge is an asset
