About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and lead an enterprise leadership engagement model involving plant managers, operations directors, and front-line supervisors
  • Build behavior-based safety programs and observation systems
  • Coach and hold site leadership accountable for safety leadership behaviors
  • Champion recognition and escalation mechanisms for safe behavior and at-risk conditions
  • Own the enterprise EHS management system across all manufacturing sites
  • Establish a maturity model and site assessment/audit methodology
  • Align the management system with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory frameworks
  • Embed safety standard work into production standard work
  • Drive proactive hazard identification and risk reduction across processes, equipment, and facilities
  • Own environmental compliance, including permitting, waste management, emissions, and environmental reporting
  • Ensure industrial hygiene programs meet or exceed regulatory requirements
  • Maintain audit-readiness and lead responses to OSHA, EPA, and state-level inspections
  • Own manufacturing EHS scorecards, trends, and improvement activities
  • Report safety performance, culture maturity, and improvement roadmaps to executive leadership and the Board
  • Serve as senior escalation point for serious injuries, environmental releases, and high-potential near-misses
  • Lead or oversee root cause investigations and corrective action closure
  • Ensure consistent incident classification and reporting across sites
  • Build and lead a high-performing manufacturing EHS organization
  • Develop the technical and coaching capability of site-level EHS leaders, industrial hygienists, safety engineers, and environmental compliance specialists
  • Partner with HR and Manufacturing Excellence on safety leadership expectations, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 12 years related experience, including a minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience within manufacturing operations
  • Five years in the aerospace and defense industry or a comparably regulated, safety-critical manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated track record of measurably improving safety KPIs across a multi-site manufacturing network
  • Experience designing and leading a leadership engagement model that changed how plant managers and front-line supervisors personally own safety
  • Deep working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state EHS regulatory frameworks for manufacturing operations
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems
  • Experience leading serious incident investigation and corrective action processes, including direct engagement with regulators as needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • CSP, CIH, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
  • Ability to lead through urgency and personally engage on the floor or at a site during a serious safety event
  • Experience building or scaling behavior-based safety programs across a multi-site manufacturing network
  • Familiarity with AS9100/NADCAP-governed manufacturing environments
  • Experience benchmarking manufacturing EHS organization design and staffing models
  • Advanced degree desired
