About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the strategic execution of the team
- Serve as the primary authority on scope and “Go/No-Go” decisions
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to manage releases
- Work with the Program Chief Engineer and Chief Architect to decompose high-level mission capabilities into discrete technical features
- Eliminate architectural ambiguity for development teams
- Provide technical context for every story, including API contracts and data flow diagrams
- Own and groom the team backlog
- Ensure stories are granular, technically sound, and meet Definition of Ready and Definition of Done standards before entering a sprint
- Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Work with the Lead Engineer to clear technical blockers
- Validate implemented features against mission intent and original feature decomposition before closing stories
Requirements
What you’ll need- Active TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance
- B.S. degree or higher in a STEM field and 7+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience
- 3+ years as a Technical Product Owner or Team Lead in an Agile environment
- Excellent technical and nontechnical communication skills
- Writing, deriving, and communicating requirements to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to brief technical and nontechnical audiences on development progress, risks and opportunities, and proposals for new features
- Ability to communicate system design via SysML, UML/Entity Relationship Diagrams, or equivalent System Modelling tools
- Working knowledge of modern software stacks
- Understanding of how CI/CD pipelines and microservice architectures impact feature delivery
- Experience with at least one cloud technology platform such as AWS or Azure
- Proficiency in GitLab for issue tracking, milestone management, and boards
- Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite: Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence
- Experience with Scrum and Kanban agile methodologies
- Understanding of when to use Scrum versus Kanban
- Willingness or ability to travel up to 10%
- Desired: Direct experience in Defense, Aerospace, or GovTech domains
- Desired: Direct experience in GEOINT mission planning and processing
- Desired: Direct experience in satellite command and control systems
- Desired: Direct experience in advanced mission and payload planning for satellite operations
- Desired: Expert-level proficiency in GitLab or equivalent experience in Jira/ADO
- Desired: Certification as a Professional Scrum Product Owner or equivalent
