About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and conduct user research with investigators, auditors, inspectors, analysts, and counsel using interviews, contextual inquiry, task analysis, diary studies, and surveys
  • Design and run usability testing for OIGChat, data platform interfaces, dashboards, and pilot AI applications
  • Document findings with severity ratings and actionable recommendations
  • Conduct user readiness assessments and adoption surveys across program offices
  • Build and maintain adoption measurement frameworks, usage analyses, and adoption dashboards
  • Develop personas, journey maps, workflow models, and service blueprints
  • Synthesize Community of Practice feedback, ambassador input, support themes, and feature requests into prioritized product-backlog findings
  • Conduct human factors analysis of AI-assisted tasks, cognitive load, error-prone steps, verification behavior, and trust calibration
  • Partner with training and adoption teams to distinguish design problems from training or communication gaps
  • Conduct accessibility research with assistive technology users to validate Section 508 conformance
  • Document research plans, protocols, consent practices, findings, and recommendations
  • Maintain a research repository for team access

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree + 7 years of experience in user experience research, human factors, behavioral science, business analysis, or related field; equivalencies considered (Master's + 4 years; 13 years with no degree; AA + 9 years)
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust (Tier 4 / High Risk) fitness determination
  • Experience planning and executing qualitative and quantitative research for enterprise software, analytics platforms, or data-intensive applications
  • Proficiency in usability testing methods and research synthesis
  • Ability to translate findings into prioritized recommendations for development teams
  • Experience developing adoption metrics, measurement frameworks, and data-driven technology value assessments
  • Strong facilitation, interviewing, and communication skills
  • Ability to present findings to technical teams and executive stakeholders
  • Up to 10% travel required
  • Desired: Experience researching AI or large language model tools, including trust calibration, over-reliance, verification behavior, and prompt literacy
  • Desired: Hands-on experience with accessibility research, assistive technology testing, and inclusive research recruitment
  • Desired: Background in federal government, law enforcement, investigative, audit, or inspector general environments
