About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own a product surface such as the portal domain, demo platform, or SDK, including product decision rights
- Decide what ships and how it works within Product direction
- Translate briefs into MVPs and phases, define success measures, and reshape or stop ineffective work
- Maintain a live measurement baseline covering adoption, task success, and performance
- Propose future work based on user and client contact and product conviction
- Ship client-facing work without design review
- Set the technical standard for the engineering estate
- Lead responses to performance, accessibility, and security findings
- Own services and delivery machinery end-to-end, including GitLab pipelines, charts, GitOps, and infrastructure
- Design durable API contracts
- Execute cross-repository decommissions and migrations safely across team boundaries
- Lead design reviews for the product surface
- Own testing strategy and release regression cycles; reduce test flakiness to zero
- Own platform programmes including package-manager, framework, test-framework, and runtime migrations
- Translate roadmaps into executable epics
- Mentor junior team members
Requirements
What you’ll need- The candidate will already need to hold the right to work in the UK
- Solid JavaScript/TypeScript and React
- Comfort somewhere beyond the frontend: an API, a service, or infrastructure
- System design and architecture, designing features that span frontend, service and configuration
- Evidence of AI-native working with stated verification
- A testing instinct: you can design a test approach and defend it
- Has owned a product surface or platform programme including its worst weeks
- Can architect a frontend estate live (state, contracts, testing, deployment)
- Evidence of raising a team's standards
- Demonstrable product judgement
- Ship across the stack: TypeScript/React frontends, Node services (with some Java in the portal estate), API contracts, GitLab CI/CD, and deployment via Helm, GitOps and Terraform
- Treat accessibility, performance, and security as engineering concerns
- Build with AI as a core part of your workflow, with verification discipline
- Learn the domain of fraud, identity, authentication, and clients' operational world
- Write meaningful tests for everything shipped
- Nice to have: Java in production; design systems or component library work; SDK or library engineering; data visualisation; regulated-industry experience
