About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Retrieve, abstract, and/or over-read medical records to capture required data elements for HEDIS reporting
- Collect member medical records from EMR/EHR systems
- Review electronic medical records for required documentation
- Download medical record images to corporate drives
- Log receipt of medical record documentation in appropriate software
- Pursue records via phone, fax, mail, or direct onsite pickup when needed
- Enter pertinent medical record data into the specified HEDIS database to support reporting and Quality Improvement
- Over-read records abstracted by other HEDIS Medical Record Analysts
- Prepare assigned records for abstraction
- Document retrieval progress and findings for each EMR accessed
- Communicate professionally with provider offices
- Abstract specified clinical data elements for HEDIS reporting
- Document abstraction findings using designated paper and/or electronic tools
- Communicate additional pursuit strategies to team members according to department policies and procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Demonstrated command of medical terminology, EMR/EHR systems, medical record documentation, and clinical processes
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products desirable
- Understanding of HIPAA
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG coding conventions a plus
- Knowledge of FACETS a plus
- Experience with quality oversight and teaching desired
- Prior experience in HEDIS and medical record retrieval and/or abstraction for quality or research projects
- Associate degree in Nursing or related field and 3 years of experience in a clinical setting, working with medical records, and/or EMR/EHR systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred valid Registered Nursing (RN/LVN/LPN) license, CPC certification, or CCS certification
- Must have wired internet connection, not satellite or cellular, with minimum 5 Mb upload and 10 Mb download speeds for work-from-home option
- New hires need access to a personal mobile device for MFA setup
- Background check required
