About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate and maintain the full wastewater treatment system and ancillary equipment
- Monitor and operate systems using Ignition and Allen-Bradley control systems, including remote access and timely alarm response
- Perform calibration and preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, chemical systems, field instruments, and critical equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to minimize downtime
- Monitor and adjust MLSS, pH, sludge age, solids retention time, COD/BOD removal efficiency, flow, dissolved oxygen, and temperature
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA requirements
- Analyze operational data, evaluate system trends, identify disruptions, and ensure regulatory and performance compliance
- Communicate with clients and project teams, providing operational insights and technical summaries
- Read and interpret engineering plans, P&IDs, PFDs, O&M manuals, and installation details
- Assist with operational protocols for new and existing sites
- Track project tasks, update schedules, and assist with site upgrades and retrofits
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
- Lead punch-list development and resolution before plant handover
- Support functional and performance testing during commissioning
- Maintain accurate records, document completed work, and contribute to operational reporting
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- 5+ years operating industrial or municipal water/wastewater facilities
- Possess a Wastewater license in the state of Colorado, or the ability to obtain equivalent
- Experience operating and optimizing WWTPs in food/beverage or municipal sectors
- Experience managing digestor systems: phosphorus removal, suspended growth, anaerobic treatment, solids separation
- Experience maintaining and operating MBR and RO units
- Hands-on experience with anaerobic/aerobic treatment, RO, UFMBR, MBBR, filtration, chemical dosing, and biogas reactors
- Experience operating and maintaining skidded/process equipment, process controls, and instrumentation
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical basics: pumps, valves, piping, dewatering, and solids handling
- Basic industrial electrical and instrumentation knowledge
- Experience performing regular lab testing, water quality analysis, and data collection (TSS, MLSS, conductivity)
- Ability to read and apply P&IDs and PFDs for system operations
- Knowledge of PLC/SCADA programming, control sequences, and industrial process automation
- Experience using Ignition, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar automation/control platforms
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple priorities
- Available for travel 1–2 times per quarter
- Valid driver’s license
- Lives within 30 minutes of Denver plant site
