About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, coach, and grow a distributed team of roughly 10 engineers across the US, Mexico, and India
- Build one team across full-time employees and contractors with shared standards and quality expectations
- Design overlap windows, handoffs, and asynchronous documentation across timezones
- Hire, onboard, and develop engineers and partner with HR and vendors on staffing
- Write production code regularly and pick up sprint stories alongside engineers
- Pair with engineers, review pull requests, and lead technical design from inside the codebase
- Prototype difficult parts of the headless migration
- Lead migration from Salesforce Commerce Cloud storefronts to a headless Next.js frontend deployed on Vercel
- Sequence migration increments while maintaining business operations
- Protect SEO, URL structures, performance, Core Web Vitals, analytics fidelity, and checkout reliability
- Partner on integration patterns between Next.js, SFCC APIs, and third-party services
- Lead AI adoption across requirements, design, coding, review, testing, documentation, and release
- Establish guardrails and practices for AI coding assistants and agents
- Partner with QA on AI-assisted test generation, regression coverage, and quality automation
- Measure AI impact on cycle time, quality, and throughput
- Own engineering delivery for three brand storefronts
- Maintain uptime, performance, and incident response, especially before peak seasons
- Establish observability, alerting, and on-call practices
- Own quality through automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and release practices
- Manage technical debt and communicate its business value
- Partner with engineering, QA, product, merchandising, marketing, and brand leaders
- Translate business goals into an engineering roadmap and connect work to measurable business outcomes
- Manage vendor and contractor partners and ensure knowledge transfer
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- At least 3 years in a player-coach or engineering manager role leading engineers directly
- Currently hands-on; must write production code and prove it in a technical interview
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (B2C Commerce), including storefront development, cartridges, and platform APIs
- Strong command of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and server-rendered web applications
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools and agents across the software development lifecycle
- Ability to tie engineering work to business value and communicate it in actionable terms
- Experience leading distributed teams across multiple countries and timezones
- Experience leading blended teams of full-time employees and contractors and holding vendor partners accountable
- Experience running production eCommerce platforms at scale, including peak season readiness and incident management
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- Highly preferred: production experience with headless or composable commerce architecture
- Highly preferred: hands-on experience with Next.js and Vercel, including SSR, ISR, edge rendering, and caching strategies
- Highly preferred: experience leading a storefront replatform or migration to headless architecture
- Preferred: familiarity with SCAPI, OCAPI, SLAS, and SFCC Business Manager
- Preferred: experience running multi-brand or multi-site commerce on a shared platform
- Preferred: background in retail, outdoor, marine, RV, or specialty retail
- Preferred: working knowledge of SEO, accessibility (WCAG), and Core Web Vitals in commerce
- Preferred: familiarity with Vercel, Harness or comparable CI/CD, Dynatrace or comparable observability, Kong or comparable API gateway, Linear, and Confluence
