About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish the strategic direction and long-term vision for the CMA’s public policy portfolio
  • Steward the enterprise health policy agenda and align priorities with organizational strategy, emerging system needs, physician and member perspectives, and healthcare improvement opportunities
  • Position the policy function as a source of forward-looking, actionable solutions to complex healthcare challenges
  • Identify emerging opportunities and translate research, evidence, physician insight, and system knowledge into credible policy options
  • Build relationships and support to move ideas from consultation and organizational positioning toward influence and adoption
  • Shape the CMA’s long-term policy perspective on healthcare delivery, workforce sustainability, health equity, innovation, access to care, system performance, and evolving physician and patient needs
  • Connect policy development with advocacy, communications, media, engagement, research, and partnership strategies
  • Ensure policy priorities are informed by meaningful consultation and translated into clear organizational positions, compelling narratives, and coordinated approaches
  • Represent the CMA’s policy perspectives and healthcare expertise in strategic forums, policy discussions, and national dialogue
  • Build and sustain relationships with physicians, patients, governments, medical and professional organizations, health system leaders, researchers, and other healthcare and public policy partners across Canada
  • Convene expertise, build consensus, and advance practical healthcare solutions
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the broader policy function
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative culture
  • Support leadership development and succession
  • Ensure strong governance, responsible resource stewardship, risk management, and operational performance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least a decade or more of progressive experience in health policy, healthcare strategy, health system leadership, and public policy within a healthcare environment
  • Experience leading public policy and healthcare strategy at a senior level
  • Ability to develop strategic direction and long-term vision for a public policy portfolio
  • Ability to translate research, evidence, physician insight, and system knowledge into credible policy options
  • Ability to build relationships with physicians, patients, governments, medical and professional organizations, health system leaders, researchers, and other partners across Canada
  • Ability to lead consultation, organizational positioning, advocacy, communications, media, engagement, research, and partnership strategies
  • Ability to establish priorities, performance expectations, and measures of success
  • Leadership development and succession-planning capability
  • Knowledge of governance, resource stewardship, risk management, and operational performance
