About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Monitor African sports news on a daily basis
- Research, collect, and verify the information required to prepare programs
- Help prepare running orders, editorial briefs, and presentation sheets
- Identify and propose topics, editorial angles, and content related to African sports news
- Write news briefs, summaries, introductions, editorial graphics copy, and content for on-air or digital platforms
- Conduct documentary and statistical research
- Help select and index images and video clips
- Contribute to preparing interviews and appearances by consultants and guests
- Support editorial teams during program production and delivery
- Help coordinate with the newsroom, production, scheduling, and on-air teams
- Monitor major African competitions, qualifiers, and sporting events
- Contribute occasionally to the creation of digital content related to sports programs
- Help prepare and produce editorial content under the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Currently pursuing a degree in journalism, media, communications, or a related field
- Passion for sports news, with a particular interest in African sports, especially football
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to synthesize information and a high level of curiosity
- Rigor and organizational skills
- Team-oriented approach
- Comfortable using digital tools and conducting information research
- Basic knowledge of video editing techniques
