About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and build core infrastructure connecting services across Canva's backend engineering organization
- Lead a major migration of backend service communication
- Collaborate with partner engineering teams and leaders
- Drive support for additional languages and frameworks
- Own reliability, performance, and correctness of critical-path systems
- Mentor engineers and raise the team's technical bar
- Build and run infrastructure for service communication, traffic routing, security, and language flexibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience building and operating infrastructure used by other engineering teams
- Ideally experience with API gateways, RPC, or service mesh in high-traffic, large-scale environments
- Ability to own systems where reliability and correctness are critical
- Ability to drive technical direction across teams and communicate clearly with engineers and platform consumers
- Years of experience owning large-scale, high-transaction production systems commercially
- Ideally experience working in more than one programming language
- Passion, curiosity, and willingness to learn
