About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-layered accounting organization
- Build leadership capability and succession planning
- Establish roles, responsibilities, and performance metrics
- Recruit, develop, and retain accounting talent
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles
- Provide technical accounting leadership and ensure consistent application of accounting policies
- Modernize accounting operations and optimize close processes
- Design scalable, automated, and standardized processes
- Partner with Finance and IT to optimize systems and data flows
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead external GAAP and NAIC Statutory audits
- Oversee internal controls over financial reporting and Model Audit Rule compliance
- Identify and remediate risks
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Serve as a thought partner to the VP, Finance and Controller
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum 5 years of people leadership
- Experience in health insurance, managed care, or regulated financial services preferred
- Public accounting experience with Big Four firm preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- CPA strongly preferred
- Advanced degree preferred
- Onsite work required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
