About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the day-to-day implementation of Capricorn’s risk and compliance strategy and frameworks
- Provide independent Line 2 oversight and constructive challenge
- Ensure risk supports sound commercial decision-making across the organisation
- Oversee Capricorn’s risk profile against Board-approved appetite and tolerance
- Lead risk and compliance assurance reviews
- Monitor regulatory change
- Provide practical advice on new initiatives, incidents and systemic improvement opportunities
- Prepare concise Board and executive reporting highlighting key insights and areas for attention
- Work with senior leaders, operational risk colleagues, internal audit and external partners
- Strengthen risk management practices and improve operational processes and systems
- Build risk maturity across the organisation
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years’ hands-on enterprise risk, compliance or regulatory risk experience, ideally in a large, complex organisation or the financial services sector
- Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, operational risk practices and the three lines of accountability model
- Ability to identify, quantify and clearly raise business risks and areas of non-compliance
- Experience leading risk and compliance assurance reviews and translating findings into clear insights and improvement priorities
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including simplifying legal, regulatory and policy requirements
- Ability to influence stakeholders, provide constructive challenge and maintain effective business partnerships
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and relationship management skills, with high attention to detail
- Experience leading, coaching and developing professionals, with accountability for team outcomes
- Experience with governance, risk and compliance systems is highly regarded
- Experience working with third-party risk system vendors and supporting system improvement is highly regarded
- Exposure to business continuity management or corporate insurance activities is highly regarded
- Membership of a relevant industry body is highly regarded
- A bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a related field is required
