About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare charge documents and assist with ICD/CPT coding for Lab/AP charges
  • Work billing reports and queues to ensure accurate claim filing information
  • Communicate coding and billing issues to management
  • Register patients and enter/transcribe orders into computer systems
  • Disseminate results according to protocols
  • Scan documents to the EMR
  • Transcribe and edit radiologists’ and pathologists’ dictation
  • Package and track pathology send-out requests
  • Act as a resource for staff and resolve customer service issues
  • Address specimen collection, turnaround-time, erroneous results, MRN, and billing correction issues
  • Handle customer service complaints and coordinate with other departments
  • Dispatch pathologists as applicable
  • Answer and follow up on telephone, walk-in, and written inquiries
  • Greet and direct visitors and callers
  • Assemble mailings, distribute faxes, scan, and file documents
  • Operate office and videoconferencing equipment
  • Support the laboratory medical director
  • Manage schedules and prioritize email
  • Manage physician report cards and Epic administrative in-baskets
  • Coordinate pathologist schedules
  • Validate CPT codes and final pathology report ICD coding to maximize billing
  • Train physicians, locums, supervisors, managers, and PAs on Dragon, billing, lab orientation, and Softpath
  • Complete daily work assignments and promote teamwork and communication
  • Assist with audits and reviews
  • Attend meetings and provide input
  • Participate in annual policy and procedure reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Related field work experience
  • Competency in medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HB/PB registration, insurance, and billing protocols
  • Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding
  • Pathology and radiology transcription skills
  • Computer information systems proficiency
  • Basic/Intermediate Level experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex or semi-complex issues
  • Ability to accurately and completely document and follow up
  • Professional in-person and phone interaction
  • Ability to operate fax machines, copiers, scanners, phone systems, and videoconferencing equipment
