About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Aid the interdisciplinary team in assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy/counseling, and discharge planning for inpatient behavioral health patients
  • Provide individual and group therapy/counseling to help patients achieve treatment goals
  • Facilitate at least one regularly scheduled group process-oriented therapy session per day
  • Provide situational interventions, support, limit-setting, and milieu management
  • Use CBT and other brief therapies
  • Document assessments, interventions, therapy sessions, treatment goals, and patient progress using required formats
  • Complete initial and ongoing patient assessments and admission notes
  • Obtain collateral information from family and significant others
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to develop, implement, review, and update individualized treatment plans
  • Participate in interdisciplinary clinical, community, return-to-work, discharge, and school staffing
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning with treatment team members
  • Address family issues and assist with guardianship matters, court filings, discharge planning, and family support
  • Report child and elderly abuse or neglect to welfare agencies
  • Help maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu and ensure patient/staff safety
  • Complete event reports for adverse outcomes
  • Assist patients with conflict resolution and de-escalation using CPI techniques
  • Generate process, treatment, and patient-care improvement ideas
  • Communicate milieu and programming needs to the clinical supervisor and nurse manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training upon hire
  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and other brief therapies
  • Expertise in group dynamics
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Code, Confidentiality Act, Mental Health Treatment Preference Act, HIPAA, guardianship and custody laws, advance directive legislation, MMCI policies, and elderly and child abuse reporting laws
  • Ability to use usual and customary equipment required for the position
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals
  • Required to drive own vehicle for business purposes
  • Ability to complete clinical assessments, treatment planning, psychotherapy/counseling, and discharge planning
