About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with Medication Renewal Center nursing and clerical teams
- Complete medication refill requests, care gap notifications, and order entry using established protocols
- Review and process medication renewal requests received electronically, by fax, or by telephone
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation for medication renewals, patient care needs, and follow-up activities
- Enter refill requests, pharmacy communications, and medication orders into the EMR
- Order and schedule laboratory work and patient appointments
- Review medication compliance through medical record analysis
- Communicate medication orders to pharmacies verbally and electronically
- Provide patient health and wellness education using approved resources
- Coordinate with providers, nurses, pharmacies, patients, and care teams
- Identify care gaps and promote chronic medication adherence
- Review appointments and laboratory results to support safe medication administration
- Contact patients regarding laboratory work, office visits, and follow-up services
- Communicate medication changes to reduce medication errors
- Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance coverage
- Process patient concerns using symptom-guided protocols
- Collect, document, and report patient information within the EMR
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, and orientation of new team members
- Provide float support to Patient Contact Center Clinical teams as needed
- Manage high-volume medication refill workflows and pharmacy communications
- Support non-face-to-face medication management and patient care coordination
- Facilitate continuity of care among patients, providers, pharmacies, and clinical staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED
- One of the listed medical assistant certifications: RMA (AMT), RMA (AAH), NRCMA (NAHP), CMA (NCCT), CCMA (NHA), CMA (AAMA), or RMA (ARMA)
- Ambulatory clinical work experience
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to critically think
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work evening hours, 40 hours per week
- Ability to work every other weekend
- In-person training in Champaign, Illinois for a minimum of 6 months
