About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine administrative and patient-care support duties in a medical practice
- Prepare the daily clinic and assist medical and nursing staff with examinations and treatments
- Identify patients, check them in, post charges, manage cash, and schedule basic appointments
- Room patients, collect chief complaints, obtain vital signs, and reconcile medications
- Communicate by telephone with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities
- Complete prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, benefit verification, referrals, and testing coordination
- Perform office procedures including suture/staple removal, splint application, TB test result reading, and point-of-care diagnostic testing
- Provide written procedure, medication, and follow-up instructions and condition-specific education as directed
- Administer adult and pediatric medications according to provider orders
- Support prescription refills, communicate with pharmacies and patients, and document actions in the EMR
- Maintain competencies in point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
- Assist providers with procedures, perform EKGs, ear washes, vision screening, dressing changes, wound care, specimen collection and processing, and inhalation therapy
- Clean and sterilize instruments when appropriate
- Participate as a member of the code team
- Apply and charge for durable medical equipment as appropriate
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED
- One of the listed medical assistant certifications: NCCT, CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NRCMA (NAHP), CCMA (NHA), RMA (ARMA), or RMA (AAH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association
- Ability to perform administrative and patient-care support duties
- Ability to perform vital signs, medication reconciliation, point-of-care testing, EKGs, ear washes, vision screening, dressing changes, wound care, suture/staple removal, specimen processing, splint application, inhalation therapy, and medication administration
- Ability to use and document in an EMR
- Ability to work variable M–F 7a–8p and weekend schedules
- Every third weekend availability, including Saturday and Sunday
- Holiday availability
