About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining vital signs and preparing patients for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and review of systems; measure weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature
  • Complete patient chart documentation and screening questions according to clinical protocols
  • Draw and collect blood and other samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Administer medications and vaccinations orally or by injection within scope of competency
  • Track follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures
  • Assist with managing test results and follow-up as directed by the provider
  • Schedule specialist and outpatient referrals
  • Complete referral and laboratory forms and requisitions, including CPT/ICD-10 coding
  • Document patient information in the electronic medical record
  • Answer patient and family questions and provide education as directed
  • Attend clinic and department meetings and monitor organizational communications
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management, Compliance, HIPAA, and workplace policies
  • Prepare treatment rooms and assist healthcare professionals with examinations and procedures
  • Complete clerical duties and other duties assigned by the Patient Care Manager
  • Practice infection control standards when working with patients and equipment
  • Support quality, customer service, teamwork, and effective office operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Ability to obtain basic vital information and complete patient histories and review of systems
  • Competence in basic rooming functions, vital signs, and screening questions
  • Ability to draw and collect blood and other patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Ability to administer medications and vaccinations orally or by injection within scope of competency
  • Ability to schedule specialist and outpatient referrals
  • Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding
  • Ability to document in electronic medical records using standardized workflows
  • Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management, Compliance, and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to perform injections and vaccinations
  • Infection control knowledge and practice
  • Regular and consistent attendance
