About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Room patients and collect pertinent medical and personal history information
  • Obtain and document vital signs for adult patients
  • Conduct pre-visit telephone calls, medication reconciliation, and allergy/history verification
  • Communicate with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities according to department policies and provider direction
  • Perform patient check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, benefit verification, prior authorizations, referral coordination, and diagnostic testing coordination
  • Assist patients with medical and administrative forms
  • Perform office procedures and point-of-care diagnostic testing
  • Perform urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture removal, staple removal, and cast application/removal
  • Read and document TB skin test results
  • Administer medications, immunizations, PPD tests, nebulizer treatments, and oral medications as ordered
  • Process prescription refill requests and communicate prescription orders to pharmacies
  • Provide procedure, medication, follow-up, and condition-specific patient education
  • Maintain department competencies and Team-Based Care binders
  • Accurately document patient care, communications, and provider-directed interventions in the EMR

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or an accepted equivalent: RMA (AMT), NRCMA (NAHP), CCMA (NHA), RMA (ARMA), RMA (AAH), or Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Ability to perform routine administrative and patient care support duties in an adult medical practice
  • Ability to perform point-of-care diagnostic testing and maintain competency in specialized equipment and procedures
  • Ability to administer medications, immunizations, PPD tests, nebulizer treatments, and oral medications as ordered
  • Ability to use EMR systems and document patient care activities accurately and timely
