About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Room patients and collect chief complaint, medical history, and medication reconciliation information
  • Communicate with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities by telephone
  • Gather and maintain patient information according to department policies and procedures
  • Perform patient check-in and check-out
  • Complete prior authorizations for medications and procedures
  • Schedule appointments and verify insurance benefits
  • Coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing
  • Perform office procedures and department-specific duties
  • Assist with urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal as directed
  • Read TB skin test results and escalate potential positives
  • Perform point-of-care diagnostic testing
  • Provide written instructions and condition-specific patient education materials
  • Administer medications per provider orders
  • Assist with prescription refills and contact pharmacies
  • Document patient interactions and medication actions in the EMR
  • Obtain and document vital signs, pain level, and medication reviews
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and supply areas
  • Order and maintain department supplies and exam-room par levels
  • Maintain patient and provider schedule flow
  • Serve as a preceptor and resource for Medical Assistant staff
  • Track supply and medication expiration dates
  • Assist with Certificates of Medical Necessity
  • Call patients with normal laboratory results

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • One of the listed Medical Assistant credentials: RMA (ARMA), RMA (AAH), CMA (NCCT), CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NRCMA (NAHP), or CCMA (NHA)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Maintain competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
