About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Room patients and collect chief complaint, family, social, surgical, and medication history information
  • Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities
  • Perform patient check-in/check-out, prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, benefits verification, referrals, and testing coordination
  • Perform office procedures and point-of-care diagnostic testing as directed
  • Provide procedure, medication, and follow-up instructions to patients
  • Retrieve and provide condition-specific education materials per provider direction
  • Administer medications and injections under orders from a licensed physician or advanced practice provider
  • Assist with prescription medication refills and document actions in the EMR
  • Collect vital signs and health history
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff with patient treatment and procedures
  • Assist patients with appointment requests and scheduling

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED
  • One of the listed medical assistant certifications: RMA (AAH), CMA (NCCT), CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NRCMA (NAHP), CCMA (NHA), or RMA (ARMA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association
  • Ability to perform patient care support, administrative tasks, point-of-care testing, medication administration, injections, and office procedures as directed
  • Ability to maintain department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
