About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining vital information and preparing pediatric patients for examinations, treatment, and minor surgical procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and review of systems; measure and document vital signs
  • Perform basic rooming functions and screening questions
  • Draw and collect blood and other patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as required
  • Carry out provider clinical orders within scope of competency, including oral or injectable medications and vaccinations
  • Track follow-up appointments for office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures
  • Manage test results and follow-up as directed by providers
  • Schedule specialist and outpatient referrals and complete referral and laboratory requisition forms with CPT/ICD-10 coding
  • Document patient care in electronic medical records using standardized workflows
  • Answer patient and family questions and provide education
  • Attend clinic meetings, read organizational communications, and monitor intranet information
  • Perform other duties requested by the Patient Care Manager to support effective office operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Certified medical assistant work experience
  • One of the listed medical assistant certifications: RMA (ARMA), CCMA (NHA), RMA (AAH), CMA (NCCT), CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), or NRCMA (NAHP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association
  • Ability to perform clinical skills including vital signs, screening questions, specimen collection, medication and vaccination administration within scope, and documentation
  • Compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management, HIPAA, and organizational policies
  • Regular and consistent attendance
