About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Room patients and collect pertinent clinical and medical history information
- Conduct telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities
- Gather, document, and maintain patient information by telephone
- Perform patient check-in and check-out
- Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations
- Complete administrative and clinical office support tasks
- Perform office procedures and point-of-care testing
- Assist with urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal
- Read and document TB skin test results and escalate positive findings
- Provide written instructions and provider-directed patient education
- Administer medications within scope of practice and provider orders
- Assist with prescription refills and pharmacy communications
- Document patient interactions and clinical actions in EPIC EMR
- Maintain competency with clinical equipment and specialty procedures
- Retrieve, document, and trend blood glucose readings
- Create and manage telephone encounters and electronic flow records in EPIC
- Monitor, order, and maintain clinical supplies and linens
- Add and document external laboratory results in the EMR
- Assist registered nurses with forms, letters, and patient documentation
- Process prior authorizations for diabetic medications and medical supplies
- Coordinate patient communication regarding diabetes management and blood sugar monitoring
- Assist providers during clinical procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED
- Hold one of the listed Medical Assistant certifications: RMA (AAH), NRCMA (NAHP), CMA (NCCT), CCMA (NHA), CMA (AAMA), RMA (ARMA), or RMA (AMT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Work authorization verification through E-Verify
