About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist providers and clinical staff with obtaining vital signs and preparing patients for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and review of systems; measure weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature; complete chart documentation
  • Perform basic rooming functions and screening questions
  • Draw and collect blood and other patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Carry out clinical orders, including administering medications and vaccinations orally or by injection, within scope of competency
  • Track follow-up appointments for office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures
  • Assist with managing results and provider-determined follow-up
  • Schedule specialist or outpatient referrals and complete referral and laboratory requisitions, including CPT/ICD-10 coding
  • Document care in the electronic medical record using standardized workflows
  • Answer patient and family questions and provide education as directed by the provider
  • Attend clinic and department meetings and monitor organizational communications
  • Perform other duties requested by the Clinic Administrator to support clinic operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Certified medical assistant experience
  • One of the following certifications: Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA—AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA—AMT), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA—NHA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
  • Ability to perform clinical skills including vital signs, screening questions, patient history, and documentation
  • Ability to draw and collect blood and other patient samples, as required
  • Ability to administer medications and vaccinations orally or by injection within scope of competency
  • Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding
  • Compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management, HIPAA, and workplace policies
  • Regular and consistent attendance
