About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Determine the nature and location of emergencies and assess priorities
- Dispatch EMS or other emergency units according to established procedures
- Perform Emergency Medical Dispatch, including pre-arrival instructions
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency service requests
- Facilitate appropriate deployment of resources
- Schedule non-emergency medical transfers to optimize unit and personnel utilization
- Maintain contact with assigned units and monitor their status, location, response times, and movement
- Monitor public safety radio frequencies
- Operate radio consoles, telephones, computer systems, and other communications equipment
- Maintain PHI in accordance with HIPAA
- Account for and ensure field resource safety
- Prepare accurate statistical reports and paperwork
- Answer non-emergency calls for assistance
- Enter, update, and retrieve information from computer systems
Requirements
What you’ll need- Part-time position with rotating shift and variable schedule
- Weekend, holiday, and on-call availability required
- EMS system deployment knowledge/work experience
- HS/GED or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, American Heart Association (AHA), within 30 days
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification, International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), within 1 year
- ICS-100 certification, within 6 months
- ICS-200 certification, within 6 months
- ICS-700 certification, within 6 months
- ICS-800 certification, within 6 months
- Introduction to Emergency Response to Terrorism (ERT), within 6 months
- Hazardous Materials Awareness (HazMat), within 6 months
- Ability to maintain PHI in accordance with HIPAA
- Thorough working knowledge of local geography, including maps, streets, and grid book systems
- Knowledge of company and departmental policies, operating procedures, and protocols
- Ability to deal with stressful situations with poise and professionalism
- Ability to prioritize based on changing need
