About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform patient care activities delegated by the Nurse and/or Physician for patients of all age groups with acute and chronic health problems
  • Provide nursing-assistant care, phlebotomy, and 12-lead ECG tracings
  • Support the Emergency Department mission under direct RN supervision
  • Participate in cost containment, maintaining a positive work environment, minimizing overtime, required classes and meetings, and unit committees
  • Promote patient safety through protective devices, hourly rounding, care planning assistance, and maintaining a safe unit environment
  • Promote infection control through hand hygiene, handling soiled materials, sterile asepsis, dressing changes, and isolation techniques
  • Maintain personal safety and use PPE appropriately
  • Maintain daily inventory and clean and stock support areas and patient rooms
  • Perform and document pulse oximetry, catheter procedures, diagnostic tests, phlebotomy, ECG recordings, and bedside lab testing
  • Provide care for patients requiring restraint or seclusion
  • Perform and document patient observations and measurements, including vital signs, intake/output, height, weight, and pain ratings
  • Perform special procedures and prepare equipment and rooms for examinations, trauma, sutures, moderate sedation, and other procedures
  • Assist with patient mobility, transfers, positioning, admission, transport, discharge, and post-procedure monitoring
  • Assist with nutrition management, meal delivery, feeding dependent patients, and documenting intake
  • Assist with elimination procedures, catheter care, specimen collection, and urinary drainage management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Acute care work experience
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and 12-lead ECG recordings
  • Knowledge and skills to obtain adequate lab specimens
  • Ability to perform patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control
  • Ability to provide care for patients requiring restraint or seclusion
  • Ability to perform Foley catheter and straight catheter procedures, excluding children and infants
  • Ability to perform pulse oximetry and selected diagnostic tests
  • Ability to safely move and handle patients and use lift equipment
  • Ability to perform direct patient care activities under RN and/or physician delegation
