About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer call lights and provide comfort measures to patients in coordination with nursing staff
  • Bring the code cart to designated areas and provide cardiac compressions
  • Clean instruments and send them for sterilization
  • Obtain supplies and equipment required for procedures
  • Document appropriate data in patient charts when care is provided
  • Maintain all department equipment in functional condition
  • Obtain daily supplies from CPD
  • Order supplies and equipment from the storeroom and specific vendors as needed
  • Perform wound irrigations, wound dressings, and surgical preps under direct physician supervision
  • Prepare patients for transportation and transport them
  • Assist nursing staff with direct patient care within the ED Tech scope
  • Suture wounds and apply splints under provider supervision
  • Facilitate patient throughput by assisting with triage, rooming, and transfers
  • Stock linen and supplies in the emergency department
  • Perform EKGs on all emergency department patients

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Successful completion of EMT coursework, or successful completion of CNA coursework, or successful completion of at least one semester of nursing clinical experiences
  • Ability to perform duties under the direction and supervision of emergency department physicians, nurses, and provider staff
