About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support licensed nursing staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Perform personal care and hygiene activities for assigned patients
  • Facilitate communication with departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees
  • Serve as a public relations liaison for the unit
  • Maintain unit supplies, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts
  • Collect patient data as directed by the RN and ensure accurate documentation
  • Measure vital signs, monitor blood glucose, and measure and record intake and output
  • Perform or assist with activities of daily living
  • Prepare patients for transportation and/or transport them
  • Complete the unit-specific HCT Safety Checklist at the beginning of each shift
  • Receive delegated responsibilities from the RN and maintain close communication regarding task completion
  • Complete and document basic patient care, including baths, vital signs, accuchecks, and meal trays
  • Maintain patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and ambulation safety
  • Promptly answer patient call lights, triage requests, and address medical needs
  • Work under the direct supervision of the nursing manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Relevant medical military training; or completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months; or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); or at least one semester of nursing clinical experience; or worked as CNA within the past 24 months; or successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
  • Work three 8-hour shifts per week
  • Work six weekend shifts in a six-week period
  • Rotating holiday availability
