About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support licensed nursing staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Perform personal care and hygiene activities for assigned patients
  • Facilitate communication with departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees
  • Serve as a public relations liaison for the unit
  • Maintain unit supplies, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts
  • Collect patient data as directed by the RN and ensure accurate documentation
  • Measure vital signs, monitor blood glucose, and measure and record intake and output
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living
  • Prepare patients for transportation and/or transport patients
  • Complete the unit-specific HCT Safety Checklist at the beginning of each shift
  • Receive delegated responsibilities from the RN and maintain close communication during the shift
  • Complete and document basic patient care, including baths, vital signs, accuchecks and meal trays
  • Maintain patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions and ambulation safety
  • Answer patient call lights promptly, triage requests and complete patient medical needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Relevant medical military training; or completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months; or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); or at least one semester of nursing clinical experience; or worked as CNA within past 24 months; or successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program
  • Ability to work part-time night shifts, 3-8 hour shifts per week
  • Ability to work 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week period
  • Rotating holiday availability
