About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient care and unit maintenance activities
  • Provide hygiene, nutritional, elimination, skin-care, comfort, and activity support
  • Measure and document patient information including intake/output, vital signs, blood pressure, weights, and drains
  • Perform trained and certified procedures such as intermittent urinary catheterization and clean dressing changes
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Set up equipment, manage belongings, and prepare rooms
  • Make rounds at least every two hours and respond promptly to call lights
  • Report pertinent patient information to assigned nurses and complete documentation before leaving the shift
  • Maintain clean, safe, organized patient rooms and unit areas
  • Perform errands, stock supplies, manage exchange carts, and remove discontinued equipment
  • Assist with patient lifting, transfers, mobility, and use of lift equipment
  • Follow patient, environmental, infection-control, and personal safety practices
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and hospital personnel to support patient satisfaction and department goals
  • Attend educational offerings, validate skills, and contribute to quality-assurance activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program; relevant medical military training; completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); at least one semester of nursing clinical experience; or work as a CNA within the past 24 months
  • Ability to work 7:00pm–7:30am, three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Every other holiday requirement
  • No on-call requirement
  • Ability to perform patient care, safety, infection-control, documentation, and unit-maintenance procedures
