About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient care and unit maintenance
  • Provide hygiene, nutrition, elimination, skin care, comfort, and activity support to assigned patients
  • Measure and record patient data including intake/output, vital signs, blood pressure, weights, drains, and abdominal girth
  • Perform additional trained and certified skills such as intermittent urinary catheterization and clean dressing changes
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Set up care equipment and manage patient belongings
  • Make rounds at least every two hours and respond promptly to call lights
  • Report pertinent patient information to assigned nurses and complete documentation before leaving the shift
  • Maintain clean, safe, orderly patient rooms and unit areas
  • Stock supplies, manage SPD exchange cart items, clean unit equipment, and perform errands
  • Assist with patient lifting, transfers, mobility, and use of lift equipment
  • Follow patient, environmental, infection-control, and personal safety procedures
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and peers to support department goals and patient satisfaction
  • Attend educational offerings to validate skills and maintain current patient-care knowledge
  • Support quality assurance and patient-care improvement efforts
  • Provide respectful, responsive assistance to patients, families, hospital personnel, and peers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
  • Work every other weekend
  • Work one winter and one summer holiday
  • Work 3:00pm–11:30pm, with 3–12-hour shifts per week
  • Ability to perform patient care and unit maintenance activities under nurse delegation
  • Ability to complete required patient care, safety, infection-control, and equipment-handling procedures
  • Ability to use protective equipment and appropriate body mechanics
  • Ability to communicate pertinent patient information to nurses
