About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient care and unit maintenance activities
- Provide hygiene, nutrition, elimination, skin care, comfort, activity, and mobility assistance to assigned patients
- Measure and document patient information including intake/output, vital signs, blood pressure, weights, drains, and abdominal girth
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Set up patient-care equipment and manage patient belongings
- Make rounds at least every two hours, answer call lights promptly, anticipate patient needs, and report pertinent information to nurses
- Complete documentation before leaving the shift
- Maintain clean, safe, organized, and adequately stocked patient rooms and unit areas
- Perform errands and maintenance tasks, including cleaning kitchens, refrigerators, utility rooms, IV poles, carts, and distributing supplies
- Assist with patient lifting, transfers, moving and handling, and use lift equipment safely
- Follow infection-control, hand-hygiene, protective-equipment, and patient-safety practices
- Collaborate with nursing staff and peers to support department goals and patient satisfaction
- Attend educational offerings, validate skills, maintain current patient-care knowledge, and contribute to quality-assurance improvements
- Communicate respectfully with patients, families, nurses, peers, and hospital personnel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- High school diploma/GED
- At least one semester of nursing clinical experience OR worked as CNA within past 24 months OR successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program OR relevant medical military training OR completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Ability to perform patient care and unit maintenance activities under nurse delegation
- Completion of additional training and certification for applicable skills such as intermittent urinary catheterization and clean dressing changes
- Ability to work the night shift, 7:00pm–7:30am, three 12-hour shifts per schedule
- Every other weekend and every other holiday availability
