About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with delegated patient-care and unit-maintenance activities
- Provide hygiene, nutrition, elimination, skin care, comfort, and activity support to assigned patients
- Measure and document patient data including intake/output, vital signs, weights, drains, and abdominal girth
- Perform additional trained and certified skills such as intermittent urinary catheterization and clean dressing changes
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including room setup and belongings management
- Make rounds at least every two hours, answer call lights promptly, anticipate patient needs, and report pertinent information to the assigned nurse
- Maintain clean, orderly, safe, and adequately stocked patient rooms and unit areas
- Complete unit maintenance tasks, errands, equipment setup, supply distribution, and SPD exchange-cart charging
- Assist with patient lifting, transfers, ambulation, and use of lift equipment
- Follow infection-control, hand-washing, protective-equipment, body-mechanics, and patient-safety practices
- Attend educational offerings, validate skills, support quality-assurance activities, and contribute to department goals
- Communicate respectfully with patients, families, nursing staff, peers, and other hospital personnel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- H.S. Diploma/GED
- At least one semester of nursing clinical experience; or worked as CNA within past 24 months; or successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program; or relevant medical military training; or completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months; or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Knowledge and skill in applicable patient-care procedures
- Ability to perform assigned duties under the direction and supervision of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses
- Ability to use patient-lifting and safety equipment appropriately
- Ability to work day shifts of 7:00am-7:30pm, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Ability to work every other weekend and holiday rotation
