About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the reference lab procurement/processing area
  • Provide guidance, leadership, functional support, and training to staff and new employees
  • Perform lab processing assistant duties, including patient/order registration and specimen processing
  • Transcribe and process demographic, financial, and clinical information
  • Scan documents into the EMR and enter and release laboratory orders
  • Monitor specimen tracking, pending collections, inventory, and supplies
  • Investigate errors, workflow issues, incidents, and non-compliance; document findings and follow up
  • Place and follow up on LIS/IT and maintenance tickets
  • Maintain procedure manuals and communicate procedural changes
  • Serve as a liaison among processing staff, nursing units, technical staff, patients, clients, and laboratory management
  • Develop training materials and oversee new phlebotomy staff competency progress
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures
  • Assist with special reports and other assigned support duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Lab science experience in lieu of education or college diploma in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in a clinical lab as a lab assistant, processing assistant, or phlebotomist who also processes samples
  • 1–3 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Ability to perform procurement/processing area duties and staff functions during shortages or high workload
  • Ability to follow lab test catalog and testing requirement guidelines
  • Knowledge of compliance and applicable regulations
  • Familiarity with reference materials
  • Ability to handle conflicting demands and personalities
  • Ability to train and support peers and new employees
  • Ability to attend required training updates, meetings, and educational sessions
  • Work authorization verification through Form I-9 and E-Verify
