About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute nursing knowledge and skills to the provision and management of adolescent behavioral health patient care
  • Assess patient status through interview, observation and physical assessment under RN supervision
  • Assist the RN in developing individualized plans of care with patients, families and the healthcare team
  • Apply interventions to achieve expected patient outcomes
  • Evaluate and document patient progress throughout the shift and modify care plans as needed
  • Complete patient charts and event reports
  • Troubleshoot clinical equipment and maintain technical knowledge
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams from admission through discharge
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and provide goal-focused shift reports
  • Advocate for patients with physicians when necessary
  • Educate patients and families using adaptive, culturally and developmentally appropriate teaching strategies
  • Ensure patient safety and adherence to policies, National Patient Safety Goals, standards of care and evidence-based practices
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, unit-based councils and practice improvements
  • Promote patient, family and department satisfaction
  • Demonstrate Carle Values, safety guidelines and regulatory compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • College Diploma: Licensed Practical Nurse (Required)
  • Behavioral health work experience
  • Current licenses and/or certifications required for the position
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory requirements
  • Completion of annual education and competency requirements
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs, including Medicare and Medicaid
  • Ability to work night shift, 7p-7a, every other weekend, and holiday rotation
